The U18 national team head coach Bence Svasznek and U20 national team head coach Márton Vas gave their opinion about the weekend and what they saw, as well as U20 defenceman Máté Seregély and U17 forward László Tamási about what they experienced.
Bence Svasznek, U18 head coach: The players were put through a number of off ice tests, we worked with the basics, we worked with skating, stick handling and puck control skills. Later it was with passing, both making the pass and taking the pass. The final day we worked on the basic shots and the development of that. The weekend closed out with a small tournament. We did not only work on the physical side of things but also the mental side. Overall I think this was a very useful weekend despite us not having the full amount of players available for us, we would have liked to have worked with a larger amount of players. We had an opportunity to be working with the players who will be in the youth program for the next few years. The U17 age group had a successful three days and it was very positive to see the amount of work that they are putting in. It was surprising to see them win the tournament but based on what they did they deserved to win. This shows you can not take anyone lightly and this is a great opportunity to learn. Hopefully this will start a rivalry in the future where it will be a prestige battle.
Márton Vas, U20 head coach: I think this was very useful and we just wrapped up a very successful camp. We hope that the players have noticed how important it is to know the basics of hockey and how you need to know teh details for you to be successful at the next level. If you are able to have the fundamentals then you will be able to build off of this. With the U17 winning the tournament this was an eye opener for the older age groups that if you do not work hard every day then someone younger or hungrier can come up and take your spot.
Máté Seregély, U20: This was a very tiring week especially that it comes at the end of the season. We had some intense tests where we had to give a 100%. What time we had to regenerate from the end of the season has already been used. All the tests and information that we got back I think was very useful for us. We found out and picked up new individual drills that we can do during the season. Overall I think this was a useful weekend for us. After this weekend it was hard to concentrate and on top of that the younger teams were really gunning for us. We could not just make the moves off of muscle memory and experience. We still have some work to do but I don’t think we played that bad.
László Tamási, U17: I really liked this three day weekend, we had a chance to improve and develop. There were a number of tests which I think were successful for us overall. The tournament at the end was great as well. It feels great that we were able to beat the older guys, we worked hard and we had the attitude where we thought we could beat anyone, this was the key to us playing well.
