On Sunday afternoon KalPa traveled to Vienna to take on the Capitals, two days earlier Kalpa managed to win on home as a loss would have meant elimination from the Champions Hockey League.
With elimination being on the line the visiting KalPa struck first when Miikka Pitkanen scored late in the first period on a nice individual effort. In the second period KalPa doubled the lead when Jesse Mankinen slipped one through the Capitals’ goalies legs, Sebok was on the ice for the goal. With ten minutes to go in the game Vienna scored to make it a one goal game, and breathed some life back into their chances of winning the game.
Minutes later Mankinen scored his second one of the game to put KalPa back up by two goals and Balázs sebők was on the ice for this one again.
With the win KalPa advances to the knockout stage of the Champions Hockey League. Sebők joins Vilmos Galló who made it to the next round with Linköping and Jesse Dudás whose TPS also advanced, however Dudás will be out for a couple of months with an injury.
“There was a lot of pressure on us just like in the previous game when we managed to turn it around after being down 1-0 still in the 52nd minute and then we managed to score three times. Today we were somewhat relaxed once we went up 2-0, but they managed to get one back and it was tight until the end. This is the first time in our history we managed to get past the group stage so we are really happy about this. I called the play that we managed to score our second goal on which came on the power play. The third goal was basically good forechecking, I was on the ice but didn't really have anything to do with it” said Balázs Sebők after the game.
