Currently Brasov is tied on points with DVTK for first place in the MOL League with 35 points after they picked up two wins against Transylvanian rivals Csíkszereda during a home and home weekend on of the biggest reasons was that they only had two goals against during the two games. Defenceman Richard Filip also helped out his team with two goals and three assists and this is why he is this week’s Player of the Week.

Filip comes from the Slovakian town of Pöstyén however he played his first season of senior hockey in Trencsény in the Slovak second division before moving back home and playing for the local team SHK 37 Piestany. While playing in the Slovak Extraliga and the second division he had a number of future MOL League players as teammates such as Ladislav Sikorcin, Jozef Mihalik and Vlastimil Lakosil. After one season in Montpellier France he signed with Brasov in 2008 and has played five out of the past nine seasons with the Romanian club. The other four seasons out of the nine has been with Piestany as he has almost switched yearly between the two teams.  Richard Filip took time out of his day before the next match week starts to answer some questions.

Brasov picked up an important six, in some ways twelve points, against your rivals Csíkszereda, what was the biggest reason for this?
The performance of the team was a real team effort by everyone on the squad, the games against Csíkszereda are always important as this is a real derby.

During the two games Brasov only had two goals scored against however as a defenceman you managed to score a total of five points, what was the reason for this performance?
In the defensive end we did not make any bad mistakes and our goalie played very well. On top of this I am very happy that my goals added to the success of the team.

During the summer you came back to the MOL League after a period of switching back and forth between your home team Piestany and Brasov during the last number of years, what brought you back?
I had been in contact with Brasov since the end of last season, it was important to me that I knew the team and they knew me very well. It did not take long for us to come to an agreement about me coming back.

You first game to Brasov in 2008, what has changed the most since the 2008-09 season and the 2016-17 season?
There is a very large difference since then and now, first off it is a tremendous credit to the people here who work in hockey because they work alot and do a great job,the Slovak clubs could learn from them. The league has gotten better and faster over the years as well as more professional. I can not really say anything negative, everything has changed for the better.
