After last season’s finish Dunaújváros has turned it around and are sitting in fifth place and two points behind fourth place Brasov. During the past match week the team picked up two wins by the score of 6-3 on home ice as the defeated Csíkszereda and second place MAC. One of the biggest reasons to the success this season is Keegan Dansereau who finished with three goals and three assists, and is this week’s Player of the Week.
Keegan Dansereau comes from Saskatoon Canada and played his junior hockey in the WHL where he was the first round pick of the Calgary Hitmen in the bantam draft. During his junior years he was teammates with future NHL players Ryan Getzlaf, Karl Alzner, Martin Jones and Andrew Ladd in Calgary as well as with former DVTK teammate, Jesse Dudás in Swift Current. Dansereau went on to play pro hockey in the North American minor leagues before making the move to Europe. The European part of his career started in Sweden, where he played in the third tier (Division 1). Keegan won back to back MOL League titles with DVTK before moving to Dunaújváros in the offseason. We were able to catch up with prolific scorer after practice.
This past week Dunaújváros beat MAC for the second time on home ice this season and also defeated Csíkszereda, what was the secret to the success during the two games?
We stuck to our system and played as a team, when we get away from those aspects we start to struggle, however with those things we can be a really good team!
You are the leading scorer in the MOL League, what has it been like playing the season with Zsolt Azari and Justin Cseter, your linemates?
We work well together and each of us brings our own little thing to the line, which has been going very well so far. Hopefully we can keep this going all year!
You left Miskolc this past offseason after winning two MOL League titles, what pulled you to Dunaújváros?
I guess it might have been time for change. Dunaújváros Head Coach Lee Gilbert contact with me first and we talked most of the summer. I saw the type of guys they were signing and a fresh opportunity here.
This is your third season in the league, how much has the level of play changed during your time here?
Level of play is good! I think the league is overall getting better and better each and every year!
The WHL, where you spent your junior seasons is arguably one of the best leagues in the world, what was it like playing with Getzlaf and Andrew Ladd, and who was the toughest player you went up against?
Getzlaf was really a nice guy and was one of the best players I have ever had the pleasure to be on the same team With! I would say the most intimidating and tough player that I faced would have be Dustin Byfuglien
