Nitra picks up first win in the Visegrád Cup

Both HK Nitra and FTC-Telekom played their first Viegrád Cup game of the season, with the Slovak club taking the close game.

The home team Nitra went with the veteran Miroslav Hanuljak in net with Ferencváros countering with the young Gergely Arany. Fradi had two penalties in the first period but thanks to their penalty kills Nitra was not able to take advantage of it. Late in the first period Ferencváros had their first power play of the game but they were not able to capitalize on it.

It was not until the 27th minute of play when the scoreless deadlock was broken when Gergő Nagy found the back of the net to give the visitors the 1-0 lead. Both teams had one power play each in the middle period, but the score remained unchanged.

In the opening minutes of the third period Samuel Rácz scored an even strength goal to pull Nitra even at 1-1.  Not much later Nitra took their first lead of the game by the way of Karol Korím. Ferencváros managed to kill their first penalty of the period, but less than a minute later they had a player back in the penalty box. Matus Rais scored a power play goal with Lane Scheidl picking up the assist, this put Nitra up by two. Late in the game Ferencváros made it a one goal game as Farkas set up Dezső Roczanov for the score. In the closing minutes of the game FTC pulled Arany for the extra attacker, but they were not able to tie the game up.
