For the past three seasons MAC has had the same two netminders, Bence Bálizs and Gergely Arany. This is arguably one of the best goal tending duos in the league, Bálizs is a stable member of the Hungarian national team with Gergely Arany as one of the top young Hungarian goalies. The club is in a good position regardless who is between the pipes.
On the blueline the team has depth where they can easily run eight deep. Imports Scott Maccauley and Wes Cunningham are both heading their third season in Europe after playing in the ECHL and the CHL. They have been relatively point efficient players throughout their careers. Tamás Pozsgai is not only the leader of this unit but also the team, other national team players are István Mestyán and bruising defenceman Bronson Kovács, who actually lead the team in goals in the playoffs are back. There is a strong group of young players who have great potential and have played for the Hungarian national team already in Zsombor Garát and Roland Vokla, with Nándor Fejes rounding out the unit.
The import players in the forward unit are all new however there is a familiar face from two years ago as Tomas Klempa, who finished second in the league in scoring is back after spending one season in Brasov. A feisty player from Debrecen in Jared Brown has joined the team along with Jarmo Jokila a grizzled veteran from Finland who has played in all over Europe. Two national team players have joined MAC as well as Brance Orbán has joined from Fehérvár’s EBEL team and Keegan Dansereau from Dunaújváros. With Gergő Nagy, Krisztián Nagy, Balázs Somogyi and István Terbócs the team has three very strong and prolific lines. Erik Keresztury is a pesky player who can be put in anywhere in the lineup. The fourth line will be made up of young players who are eager to get on the ice and to make some noise.
Gergely Majoross is in his third season with MAC, after finishing runner up in the past two he hopes to win his second league title of his career and second trophy with MAC. Assistant Coach Bence Svasznek will not be back, taking his spot on the bench is Jukka Kontsas, with Márton Inglis being new to the staff.
MAC is one of the favorites to win the league this season.
Gergely Majoross: It is always hard to predict how the season will go as you still need to account for how the season goes for other teams, injuries can influence how your team and others as well. It is great that we made it to the finals the past two seasons and we are proud that we also have a Hungarian Cup gold medal. We would like to take the next step forward. We have a strong basic skill set, we are a technical and fast team. I am very happy how these individual players are trying to work together for the greater good of the team. The coaching staff worked together last season Jukka Kontsas did not just work with the goalies, clearly now he will have a larger role with the team. This is a situation we were in when we were both coaching in Miskolc. Everyone puts their input in on the staff and we will be working great as a staff.
