Hungarian forward Kristóf Papp has verbally committed to play college hockey for Michigan State University. When he arrives on campus in East Lansing he will be the second Hungarian to be on an NCAA Division 1 men's roster.

After redshirting his first season on campus Olivér Herner will be playing his first year of NCAA Division 1 hockey during this season. In the near future Kristóf Papp will be joining him as hie verbally committed to Michigan State on Saturday. Interestingly enough the head coach at MSU is Dalton Cole who was coached by Hungarian National Development Program director and Hungarian U18 Head Coach Glen Williamson when both of them were with the Winnipeg Jets.

“Even though I had offers from other schools, I picked MSU because I absolutely love their campus and their hockey organization but most importantly because of the great coaching staff they have. I really felt like I was home when I visited the school.” said Papp on why he picked Michigan. Papp had a number of other options as Lake Superior State, Miami of Ohio and Ohio State.

“Michigan State has been watching me play and keeping in touch with me for awhile. I visited their campus last Monday and was offered by them at the next tournament, this weekend.”

Papp will play another season with Honeybaked and the plan is to play in the USHL for the next two seasons, the Madison Capitols hold his rights as they drafted the Hungarian forward in the Futures Draft this past summer. We will only be stepping on campus in East Lansing for the 2020-21 season.
