Hungary had the lead after the first period against their World Championship opponents but with a strong second period Belarus pulled away for the 8-1 win.

Jarmo Tolvanen and his coaching staff decided to give Zoltán Hetényi the start in net, sitting out the game was Vilmos Galló, János Hári, Chris Bodó and Dániel Kiss.

In the first period Belarus looked like the fresher team as they had more time to rest. At the midway point of the period Hungary had been outshot 10 to 3. Hungary had a power play that they were not able to take advantage of. On the other side Hetényi was make a number of great saves to keep the puck out of the net. In the 13th minute István Terbócs made a back door pass to Balázs Gőz who scored from the slot to give Hungary the 1-0 lead.

At the start of the second period Hungary had killed a penalty, just as the game went back to 5 on 5 Parfejevec scored for Belarus to tie the game up. Just after Belarus had tied the game up János Vas had a long shot but he was unable to beat the goalie. Hungary had a power play but it was Belarus that almost scored a shorthanded goal on a 2 on 1. Just as Belarus killed the penalty Stefanovics came out of the penalty box and scored on a breakaway for the 2-1 lead. At the midway point of the game Artom Demkov got a shot off to make it 3-1. Belarus scored on their sixth power play of the game when Remezov put the puck past Hetényi. The goals kept on coming as Litvinov scored in the 38th minute to make it 5-1 and Garvus was awarded a penalty shot that he converted on to make it 6-1.

In the third period Ádám Vay replaced Hetényi in net. It did not take long for Belarus to score against Vay as well with Nikita Feokitsztov off of a long shot. Hungary was still not able to score on the power play as Hungary had back to back two minute advantages. In the 54th minute Stefanovic scored again to make it 8-1.

Jarmo Tolvanen, head coach: Our second period was not even close to what we had planned. Today nothing really worked for us today. The eight goals means that we still really need to work on our defending. Sometimes we need to have situations like this so we can learn from them and it shows reality. We have been testing a number of players in new roles. Belarus on top of all of this played really well.
