Last season Nagy had started the season before going over to the United States to play in the ECHL. The Dunaújváros born forward had come up through his local youth system before making a move to Fehérvár. He spent one season in the RedBull Salzburg system where he played in the U20 and the Austrian second division, during the 07-08 season he was one of six Hungarian players on the teams U20 roster along with Péter Hetényi, Bálint Fekti, Dániel Kóger, Dávid Kiss and Balázs Somogyi. Gergő want back to Fehérvár where he would spend parts of the next four seasons playing in the EBEL and the MOL League. He would end up spending the next year and a half with Miskolc and part of one season with Nové Zámky. During the 2013-14 season he left Europe to play in the U.S., he signed with Quad City in the CHL and was called up to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, the next season he split the season with Kalamazoo of the ECHL and the Wolves. Since then he played in Fehérvár again, MAC and Quad CIty.

With the national team he had represented Hungary at the U18, U20 and the senior levels. Nagy made his senior national team debut during the 2008-09 season and was a member of the team that played in the A-Pool World Championships in Switzerland. In total he has played in five World Championships and 73 national team matches. Gergő Nagy talked to us before the start of another busy week.

How did you end up signing with Ferencváros?
I really wanted to play in Hungary, after the World Championships I had an offer to play in France, but it was not an ideal situation. If I would have left then I would have had to be away from my family and I prefered to stay with them and staying in Budapest looked like the best option.

It is no big secret that you are a supporter of the Ferencváros football club, how much did this influence your decision?
It was a great plus that it is Ferencváros that I can play for. The football team has some great fans and we hope that we can run the same path as them. We want to have a stable base that we can build off of in the long run. As a pro athlete we always want to win and we hope that this will help to draw more fans to the rink.

How has your offseason training been going?
I am in my tenth week of off-season training, after the World Championships I took off two weeks to rest and recover. Since then I have been doing the plan that Even Levy had given me, I have been doing his off-season plan for a number of years now. I was down at at the Balaton with the family and doing my off-season plan there as well. We still have two more weeks until we hit the ice and I think I am in pretty good condition. This is probably the best I have felt in the past few summers. Last season I had a late start after the surgery I had after the season, I didn't start my summer workout plan until July.

What do you expect from yourself this season? You will probably by one of the leaders on the team.
I personally hope to have a good season and have a balanced season. I would like to be one of the guys that the team depends on. However we need to ask head coach Szabolcs Fodor what he expects from me this season. I will be 29 in October so I am probably at my peak with regards to my career. I will try to help the younger guys on the team as they transition from the U20 to the pro level.

You have played in the league the past two seasons but we know the league is changing with the addition of some teams how do you think the season will go for the league?
I don't really know what to expect this season from the league. Vasas and HK Budapest will probably have young teams and I don’t really know anything about the roster that Gyergyő will have either, I am sure that the roster will not really change for the Vienna Capitals. Dunaújváros, Csíkszereda, Brasov and UTE look to be strong this season. We will try to have a balanced to and try to win as many games as we can.
