Hungarian national team head coach Jarmo Tolvanen is overall healthy. He is not complete out of the hands of the doctors. He did mention that he felt helpless not being able to be in Kazakhstan during the World Championships.

Tolvanen game a quick update on his health status. “Right now I am at home, the doctors are doing more tests and examinations, there is nothing urgent, I have no pain so that is why they let me go home. The doctors do not know exactly the reason why I got sick. They are now eliminating what I do not have or what is not the issue in the next days. They will operate on me in the near future, it is nothing life threatening but it has something to do with the issue that I had before the tournament.”

Jarmo tried to help the team as much as he could from a distance as he was regularly in contact with the coaching staff. “I was watching all the games during the tournament and I talked to the coaches after each game. It was a difficult situation since I was far from the team. I felt helpless since I was not able to help the team because of the circumstances.” He also talked about what he thought about the work that Gergely Majoross and the coaching staff did during the World Championships. “I think the coaching staff did a great job considering the difficult situation they were in. Everything happened so soon before the tournament and did not have time to prepare. They really did a great job.”

Jarmo also mentioned how he felt that he was not able to be with the team despite all the hard work was put into the preparation for the World Championships. “It was a tough situation because all the work we put in was for the tournament. All the scouting and the games I watched in Hungary, over 100 games that I saw, all the people that I talked to and the tournaments and camps we held, in the end I had to miss the highlight of the season, which was the World Championships. You cannot always control what happens in life, this was total unexpected. In my 63 and a half years I have been very healthy and never had any major health issues until right now.”

In sports it is said when someone does not miss a game in their career or over extended period of time they are an “iron man” based off of this Jarmo Tolvanen is an iron man when his coaching career is taken into consideration as the first game of the World Championships was the first time he missed a game. “Up until the World Championships I have never missed a game in my coaching career, I have had a fever in the past or the flu but I never missed a game. In England I was sick but I was with the team. Once we got back to Budapest the pain was too much for me and I had to go to the doctor.”

In closing he had the following to say “It was a bad situation but sometimes you have accept it and make the best of it.”
