Busy day in the Visegrád Cup

Three out of the four semi final match ups have come to a close as GKS Katowice, JKH GKS Jastrzębie and HK Nitra have on to the semi finals.

GKS Katowice-HC 07 Detva 3-3 OT (5-4 on aggregate)
Detva came into the game with a one goal lead. The home team started Michal Kieler in net with the Slovak team contering with Marek Simko. Detva managed to kill a penalty in the first half of the opening period with Peter Zuzin giving them the 1-0 lead later in the period. 

In the second period the teams picked up offsetting penalties, the 4 on 4 hockey was favorable for Detva as Rastislav Gaspar opened a 2-0 lead for the visitors. Later in the period Viliam Cacho made it 3-0 for Detva.

In the third period with Katowice having a player in the penalty box they scored a short handed goal to get one back and make it 3-1. In the closing minutes Katowice pulled the goalie since they needed a goal to tie it up on aggregate. The move paid off as Teddy DaCosta scored with less than two minutes left. With both teams have scored four goals each in the two games, the series had to be settled in overtime.

In the 65th minute Grzegorz Pasiut scored the series winner as Katowice moved on to the semi finals.

JKH GKS Jastrzębie-UTE 4-0 (13-2 on aggregate)
Jastrzębie took the first game of the series. UTE went with Dávid Duschek in net with the home team giving David Marek the start in net. Jastrzębie had an early two man advantage that Henrich Jabornik was able to score on to make it 1-0. A goal by Maciej Urbanowicz made it 2-0 with Radoslaw Nalewajka quickly made it 3-0.

In the second period was filled with UTE penalties as Cody Carlson picked up 2+2+10+20, Nándor Banga and Devin DiDiomete each had two minutes with Jed Kiss-Rusk picking up two separate minors and Jared Brown had ten minutes. However the UTE penalty kill was working as Jastrzębie was not able to score.

The score remained unchanged through the third period as both teams had power plays. The final goal of the game was a short handed goal by Kamil Wrobel to make it 4-0 as Jastrzębie moved on to the semi finals.

HK Nitra-Podhale Nowy Targ 4-1 (7-4 on aggregate)
The first game ended in a 3-3 draw. Nitra went with Juraj Simboch between the pipes with Przemyslaw Odrobny getting the start for Nowy Targ. In the first period both teams had one power play, however it was Nitra took advantage of it as Judd Blackwater made it 1-0.

The second period came and went with no real action as no goals were or scored or penalties being called.

In the final twenty minutes the scoring picked up as Andrej Kollár scored early to make it 2-0. Later in the period Karol Csányi scored a power play goal to open up a three goal lead for Nitra. Less than a minute later Emil Sved got Nowy Targ on the scoreboard as well. Lukas Hrusik put the game away for the home team with just end ten minute left in the game. Nitra moved on to the semi finals.
