U20: Preview Against Ukraine

2018.12.09. 16:11 |
After an opening 3-1 win against Japan, Hungary will be playing against Ukraine in their second game of the Division 1/B World Championships.

Hungary will be taking on Ukraine at 20:00 tonight. In their first game of the tournament for Ukraine, they lost to the host team Poland 4-2. The Hungarian coaching staff has decided to stay with Dávid Kovács in net with Martin Szeles serving as the backup netminder. As of right now the Alex Kovács moved up to the first line with Bálint Horváth and Nátán Vértes. Kristóf Papp will be centering a line with Szalma and Mihály, with the trio of Révész Császár and Madácsi as the third line. The fourth line with be Donát Péter, Kreisz and Dézsi with Andor Péter as the 13th forward. The defensive pairings have been juggled as well, Sándor and Fejes will be playing together and Kiss will be with Vas, Bugár is staying with Seregély.

Two days before the start of the World Championships, Hungary and Ukraine had faced off against each other in an exciting and close game that was not decided until the final minute of play. Oleg Ignatyev is the head coach for Ukraine, he was bumped up to the U20 national team after being the head coach for the U18 last year, helping him will be Olexander Fyodorov. Of the two goalies that Ukraine brought to the tournament Artur Ogandzhanyan has been playing regularly with his team in the WSHL and was the starting goalie in the game against Poland, look for him to get the start tonight. About half of the roster plays outside of Ukraine. Defencemen Kozachuk plays in Slovakia and Sukhonos. Ukraine does have some dangerous forwards such as Mateychenko and Morozov. Morozov plays in the QMJHL, another forward to keep an eye on is Peresunko who is draft listed for the upcoming NHL draft.

Dávid Kiss, assistant coach: I would not really look too much into our game against them on Friday, neither team showed their better side I think. If we can play the way our players can play we should win, but we know that this will not be an easy game for us. On Friday Ukraine was not that aggressive, they surprisingly passive, they did not really come at us. We will need to play simple with quick passes and come through the neutral zone fast. All four of our lines are offensive minded, we will need to rely on our creativity. Our main goal will be defending well.
