U18 Will be emphasizing defensive zone work

Bence Svasznek and his coaching staff are in full gear as they will be putting their roster under the microscope with some new tactical elements being implemented and tweaked. It is clear by what Svaszenk had to say after the first practice of the day that they will be doing work with the defensive aspect of their game. Kristóf Rétfalvi will not be able to attend the training camp.

“For both the camp and the tournament we want to see as much as we can from the players what we have been doing on the ice throughout the season. I am thinking of being organized, elements of the system and we want to keep the opponents under pressure in all areas of the ice. We want to get better from game to game.” said Svasznek. “We have added some new elements to the system, we do not spend enough time together throughout the season to really make major changes. We are trying to emphasis smaller aspects. We have been working on faceoffs in our defensive end and our play in the defensive zone along with breakout plays from our own end. We have also been working on how to react to shots from particular areas on the ice. We also quickly want to switch from defending to attacking.”

It will be interesting to see how the players react to and play with these new implementations. “Overall our work will be working on aspects in our on end of the ice. We would like to switch from a 1-2-2 to a new system, we will see how this works and then decide if we will stick with it or not for the World Championships.”
