Brasov wins Transylvanian derby

Brasov defeated Csíkszereda which helped Ferencváros, in the Monday night TV game Gyergyó beat HK Budapest in Miskolc.

The match between the two Transylvanian teams had double importance as the game counted not only in the ERSTE Liga but also in the Romanian championship as well. Early in the game the home team looked like the stronger squad but Brasov defended well. Brasov scored first as they took advantage of their first power play of the game as Lidhammar put the puck in the net. The second period came and went without a goal being scored. Tendler had a chance to make it 2-0 but Onodi stood his ground. In the third period Tendler scored a breakaway goal to make it 2-0 later in the period Tendler struck again, this time with a short handed goal as Brasov took home the three points.

Levente Hozó, head coach, SC Csíkszereda: We made a lot of mistakes and gave them chances to get back into the game. They were able to score both on the power play and also shorthanded. We were not able to score any goals despite having a number of chances in the first ten minutes of the game. If those chances go in the game might have gone a different way for us.

Greg Lindqvist, head coach, Brasov: This was a perfect game on the road for us, we were able to defend well. We killed penalties and we were also able to score a shorthanded goal as well. We played a very smart game today.

In a TV game that was played in Miskolc the first period went better for Gyergyó but they were not able to put the puck past Bence Kiss. In the second period both teams had scoring chances but it was Gyergyó that scored first as Constantin opened up the scoring, his goal was quickly followed by a goal from Vorobiev. Gyergyó held onto the 3-0 win.
