U16: Hungary Advances to Billa Cup Finals

For the third straight match the Hungarian U16 national team had a strong showing against their opponents as they defeated Eisbaren Berlin for the second time in the tournament and to set a championship match against Jungadler Mannheim for the Billa Cup final.

Hungary-Berlin 11-0

As expected Head Coach Bence Svasznek started the third different goalie in the Prague tournament with József Pesti getting the start between the pipes. The third game of the tournament followed a similar script compared to the the first two for Hungary. Defenceman Domonkos Nemes scored to give Hungary the opening lead of the game. Kristóf Németh, who has had a hot hand all throughout the tournament doubled the Hungarian lead to make it 2-0. Just like Németh, Márk Schlekmann scored for the third straight game as Hungary opened up a 3-0 lead. The two teams headed to the locker rooms with Hungary up 4-0, thanks to a goal by Dániel Csölle.

In the second period Hungary put even more distance between themselves and Berlin as Schlekmann found the back of the cage for the second time in the game to put Hungary up 5-0. Later in the period Levente Keresztes put the puck past the goalie to make the score 6-0 in the favor of Hungary. The score stayed the two teams headed into the second intermission.

After scoring two goals in the second period, Hungary converted on a higher percentage of their scoring chances in the third period. Márkó Csollák scored the opening goal of the third period, with Péter Kovács beating the Berlin goalie soon after to make it 8-0 for Hungary. They kept the pressure on the opposing team as forwards Pál Horváth and Németh with his second goal of the night made the score 10-0. The final goal came off of the stick blade of Krisztián Hódi, in total Hungary pulled away final final period when they scored five goals. Pesti went the distance for the shutout win, Hungary has gone eight straight periods without letting in a goal. Next up for the lads will be the championship game of the Billa Cup against Jungadler Mannheim on Sunday afternoon.

Dominik Dobmayer, Defenceman: It was good game against a strong opponent, luckily we won 11-0, now we need to concentrate on the next game and I hope win the finals.

Domonkos Nemes, Defenceman: This was a good game just like yesterday, we started better than yesterday and we played with confidence. We stuck to the game plan and did not let the score get to our heads. Now we need to look towards the game tomorrow and hopefully win the finals.
