After coming up short on the first day of the World Selects Invitational to the Czech Selects, the U14 team took on South East France Selects in the morning with a late afternoon game against Salming Hockey Elite.

HUNGARY-South East France Selects 2-1

For the second game of the tournament the coaching staff decided to switch goalies as Zoltán Straubinger with Olivér Balázs as the backup goalie. Hungary was unable to capitalize on an early power play in the first period. Late in the period the Hungarian penalty kill was challenged as they were short handed for over thee minute, most of which was a two man advantage for the French team. Hungary successfully killed the three penalties however in the final minute of play the French team found the back of the net as they took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Things started to click for Hungary in the second period as Márton Alapi scored to pull Hungary even at 1-1. Late in the period Hungary had to kill three penalties to keep the score tied, but were not able to score on either power play in the period. Just like in the first period there was a goal scored in the final minute of the period. This time it was Hungary as they took a 2-1 lead. Since these games are 2X20 minutes this proved to be the game winner as Hungary took their second game by the score of 2-1.

HUNGARY-Salming Hockey Elite 2-4

To keep the goalies both mentally and physically fresh the coaching staff went back to Olivér Balázs between the pipes and Zoltán Straubinger was the backup goalie for the game. Unlike earlier in the day Hungary managed to score on the first power play of the game as Levente Simon scored off of a pass from Bence Horváth to give Hungary the early 1-0 lead. This was followed up by two penalties that Hungary killed to keep the 1-0 lead. Just before the midway point of the period Hungary doubled their lead with their second power play goal of the game, this time it was Bendegúz Dobos setting up Márton Deák for the goal. Unfortunately Salming tied the game up before the period was out as Noah Steen scored twice.

The score remained unchanged until 6.30 into the second period when Salming took their first lead of the game. Hungary battled hard in an effort to tie the game back up but their efforts fell short. In the closing minutes of the game Salming scored their fourth goal of the game as they took the match 4-2.

Hungary will be back on the ice for two games on Thursday against ProHockey Melee and ProHockey McDonald.
