As it was hoped everyone involved enjoyed their day from start to finish during the tournament that was organized for the U14 players that were involved in the national team development program during the past season. In total 102 players were involved and were split into six teams. From these players the 23 will be selected in May to make the U14 squad that will be traveling out to France for an international tournament.
Head coach Glen Williamson and his coaching staff split these players into equal teams where there was two goalies and 15 skaters on each roster. Based on the results in the group stage the placement games and in the finals pairings were set up. The Medvék took on the Oroszlánok (Lions) for first place, the Bivalyok (Buffaloes) took third place against the Farkasok (Wolves), with the Viperák (Vipers) getting past the Gepárdok (Leopards) for fifth place. The games for third and fifth place were decided in a shootout.
“We were very happy that we had so many tight games, this is great for the development of the players.” said Jenő Mihály U14 development coach. “The Cup was a success and the kids were faced with challenges both on and off the ice. Aside from the hockey knowledge being put to a test we were also interested in other areas as well. The players were tested in physical skills as well as theoretical knowledge. The goal of today was that the kids have a good time and enjoy playing hockey”
The best goalie award went to two netminders this season as Levente Gottwald and Dávid Praták picked up the award. The Bivalyok had the best results on the theoretical test with the bears taking the physical fitness title.
