Ready for GB

2018.04.28. 17:25 |

For the final game of the Division 1/A World Championships in Budapest the Hungarian national team will be taking the surprise team of Great Britain.

Both Great Britain and Hungary will be playing for a chance of moving up to the A-Pool. By the time the puck is dropped for the opening faceoff both teams will know what they have to do to go up to the. A-Pool. For GB there is a chance that they might already be through, depending on what happens during the Italy-Slovenia game.

In the opening game of the final match day Kazakhstan defeated Poland, with this result Hungary has avoided relegation as Poland will be playing next season in the Division 1/B group.

Despite everyone doing a little math the players are loose and ready to play the final game as they know that they control their own destiny.

The coaching staff made some changes in the lineup, Ádám Vay will get the start in net with Miklós Rajna serving as the backup. The defensive pairings stayed the same however Kóger and Magosi were switched. Sarauer will be centering a line with Gergő Nagy and Magosi on his wings with Krisztián Nagy Between Benk and Kóger. Unfortunately István Sofron will miss his second game in a row because of an elbow injury.

Great Britain has been the surprise team of the tournament as they opened the World Championships with an upset win over Slovenia, this set the tone for the rest of the week. The Brits also picked up wins over Poland and Italy. With nine points they were the first team to secure a spot in next year’s Division 1/A. Of course now they have their sights set on moving up to the A-Pool. All GB needs to do is pick up at least one point and they will be playing in Slovakia next year this time. The Brits do not play a too complicated style of hockey and might not be the most skilled, however they are disciplined and stick to their system. This will not be an easy game.

Zoltán Szilassy, assistant coach: It will be an interesting game, we play the last game of the day so we know what we need to do. We know that no matter what we need nine points to move up to the A-Pool. Hopefully we will play the best 60 minutes that we can, it will be a tough game since Britain also needs at least one point to secure a spot in the A-Pool, they have been a surprising team, however they were the first team to pick up nine points, which is no accident. The Brits are a team in others sports that fight until the end. We need to stick to our own game and we need to fight until the end. This is also the final 60 minutes of the season so we can’t leave anything in the tank and pick up the three points that we need.
