There was a lot of outstanding performances in this past match week. Peter Fabus scored four goals in Csíkszereda’s last three games. DVTK’s Attila Pavuk had five points against Brasov, and Peter Sakaris scored three goals in two games. But our Player of the week is Hugo Turcotte from Dunaújváros, who had a hattrick against Ferencváros, then scored a last minute winner goal against Brasov in a seven-goals thriller.
Hugo Turcotte comes from Laval, Quebec. He started to play hockey in his hometown. He spent his youth and junior career both in the United States and Canada before moving on to play NCAA hockey at Niagara University. In 2015 he moved to Europe, and spent the season split between German sides Herne and Hannover. After one year, Turcotte joined HK Beograd and scored 53 points in MOL League. Dunaújváros announced the signing of the center in October.
How do you remember the dramatic win against Brasov, and your last minute goal?
It was a pretty tight game. Unfortunately, we let a 3-1 lead go in the 3rd period and Brasov was able to tied the game at 3-3 with a minute left. Hat off to the guys, we didn’t let this discouraged us and we were able to get that goal back with 26 seconds left to the game. It’s felt good but it felt even better to get our winning streak to 6 games in a row.
You scored hattrick againts Ferencváros. How could you find chemistry with your new teammates that fast?
The coaching staff and players were extremely welcoming right away since I came here. We have a great chemistry in our lockeroom and talented players which makes it easy to get acclimated with my new teammates quickly.
DAB has won six matches in a row. What is the key of the success, what is secret behind these good results?
Every week our coaching staff is preparing us very well throughout the week to be ready and successful. The guys are paying in our missions that we have as a team and we showed that during our last 6 games. As I said the chemistry in the team on and off the ice is very good which is crucial to be a contender in this league .
You played in HK Beograd last year, so you have known the leauge. Does this experience help to you to be succesful now?
Absolutely! I enjoy my time with HK Beograd last year and also playing in this league. After last season, I definitely knew what to expect from the league and it helped me for my transition with my new team.
Has the league and teams improved, changed over this year?
This league improved every year. Any teams can beat anyone on every giving night in this league which makes it fun to play in and follow as a hockey fan.
What does the remainder of the season have in store for DAB?
Winning hockey games! This team as the chemistry and talent to make some damage in the remaining of the season and playoffs and ultimately be a contender for a championship.
