After opening the Division 1/A World Championships with a win over Ukraine by the score of 5-3 the two coaches, János Hári, Csanád Erdély and István Bartalis gave their post game statement.

Rich Chernomaz, Head Coach, Hungary: They say that the first game in the playoffs or a tournament is always the most difficult to win. This was obvious in the first 10-12 minutes as we were nervous and made mistakes. Once we settled down we managed to tie the game up. At the beginning of the second period when we took the one goal lead we started to play the way we wanted to however we took some offensive zone penalties which let Ukraine to tie the game up. This showed a lot of character in their game. Their goalie made a number of great saves to make it a close game.

Olexander Savitsky, Head Coach, Ukraine: Despite trying everything that we could to win the game, this was not enough. My players fought hard and I am proud of them, but Hungary was the better team and I congratulate them, we rarely face a strong team like this.

János Hári, forward: The key to the victory was our patience, even though Ukraine scored twice in the second period we stuck to our game plan and we say the fruites of this in the third period as we managed to put more shots on net and to win the game. We will be happy for this win today but after that we will be only concentrating on the next game.

Csanád Erdély, forward: We need to work on our power play before we face Austria. Today against Ukraine we were unable to take advantage of our man advantages and we even had a 5 on 3. Our breakouts from the defensive zone was not the best either. These are some of the things we need to work on.

István Bartalis, team captain: The game started hard for us everyone was a bit nervous and we gave the puck away, in the second half of the game we started to play better and we controlled the game. We settled down and we were able to play our game.
