Hungary Shuts out France

Hungary-France 1-0

With the shutout the game before Head Coach Tibor Marton started Anikó Németh in the cage again. Hungary had back to back power plays in the early part of the opening period, however they were unable to take advantage of this. The first twenty minutes came to a close with a 0-0 score as Hungary outshot France 10-9.

In the second period there was only one penalty called, which happened to be against France. After not scoring on the two power plays in the first period, Hungary capitalized on the only man advantage in the second period when Franciska Kiss-Simon set up Alexandra Huszák for the power play goal and the 1-0 Hungarian lead.

The first penalty against Hungary was not called until the early part of the third period, however the penalty kill was working as they killed two minutes for having too many skaters on the ice a charging call as well. With Hungary still up 1-0 late in the game, france pulled their goalie for the extra attacker but were unable to tied the game up. Németh went the distance for the 1-0 shutout win. On Friday Hungary will be going up against Norway with a chance to pick up the bronze medal.
