Hungary looses to Austria 3-1

For the second game of the World Championships Hungary took on Austria in intense and quality match. Unfortunately Hungary come up on the bottom end of a 3-1 score.

Head Coach Rich Chernomaz stayed with his starting goalie from the first game as Miklós Rajna got the start in net. The rest of the lineup stayed the same as the coaching staff decided not to change the line combinations.

On the first shift of the game István Bartalis had the first chance of the game as well. Hungary killed an early penalty and then had power play soon after, however Thomas Raffl went down the left wing for the and beat Rajna on the short side for the short handed goal. Austria followed this up with two more penalties, Hungary did not score on the 5 on 3 but scored a power play goal when Keegan Dansereau took a pass from Csanád Erdély down low, and lifted it over the shoulder of Starkbaum for the tying goal. Later in the period Dániel Koger and Dansereau both had chances from the slot. On a power play late in the period both Kóger and Dansereau both had chances.

Austria looked like the stronger team in the first half of the second period, but Hungary got their legs going, Bence Szirányi had the first real Hungarian scoring chance of the period. Both teams were putting together structured attacks into the offensive zone. Vilmos Galló had a chance, Dansereau had a saucer pass to Saruer who was unable to conect for the shot. In the last minute of play Bartalis jumped on a loose puck in the neutral zone, skated in on goal but Starkbaum made the save.

In the third period Hungary came out strong with a number of scoring chances being created Galló had a shot from the slot with Dansereau also having one soon after. Austria took a one goal lead when Fabio Hofer scored from the blueline on the power play. Minutes later Austria opened up a two goal lead with their second power play goal of the game, this time Heinrich found the back of the net. Hungary kept on grinding with Bartalis and Bálint Magosi creating scoring chances. János Hári had a chance to tie the game up when he skated in on net and lifted the puck over the net. Late in the game Hungary pulled the goalie for the extra attacker in an effort to tie the game up. In the closing minutes Rich Chernomaz called time out, which looked to work as Austria was unable to come out of their end, unfortunately Hungary was unable to score a second goal as Austria won 3-1.
