Hungary Closes out Worlds Preparation against Slovenia

Hungary closed out their preparation for the Division 1/A World Championships with their fourth and final game against A-Pool nation Slovenia.

Slovenia-Hungary 5-3

Head Coach Rich Chernomaz gave Miklós Rajna the start in net with Zoltán Hetényi serving as the backup goalie. Not playing today was Bence Bálizs, Tamás Pozsgai, Dániel Kiss, Andrew Sarauer, Áron Reisz and Brance Orbán, with Balázs Sebők in the finals in Finland.

The games started off well for Hungary as István Bartalis had a shot from the slot with Vilmos galló have a chance from just outside of the crease. However Slovenia grabbed the early lead when Kuralt skated in a breakaway and flipped the puck past Rajna for the 1-0 lead. As the period went on Hungary kept on creating chances, István Terbócs had a back handed opportunity. Hungary created chances on their first player play of the game, Kevin Wehrs had a shot from the blueline, with a Dániel Kóger shot being cleared off of the goal line by the Slovenian goalie.

The second period started off well for Hungary as János Hári had a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle. On the first Hungarian power play of the second period Csanád Erdély ripped an absolute rocket from the blueline that Kroselj saved but Galló was on the spot to flip the puck home and tie it up at 1-1. Minutes later Slovenia was back up by a goal after a shot from close range. Hungary kept up with the pace of the game as they were creating chances. In the second half of the period Krisztián Nagy and Terbócs came in on a 2 on 1 but Terbócs was unable to put the pass behind the goalie. On the following rush Terbócs crashed the net which started a tussle. Both teams switched goalies at the midway point of the game, Hungary had Hetényi coming in for Rajna. Slovenia opened up a two goal lead with a power play score, just over a minute later Slovenia had a 4-1 lead. Late in the game two Slovenians skated in on Hetényi who snuffed out the 2 on 0.

The back and forth pace of the game continues on in the third period. Hungary cut it to a two goal game when Chris Bodó and Galló skated in a 2 on 1, the initial Bodó shot was saved but Galló stuffed it home ti make it 4-2. With ten minutes left in the game Keegan Dansereau had a chance and also the followed rebound was saved. Late in the game Slovenia stuffs the puck in from just outside of the crease to go up 5-2. Hungary had a 5 on 3 power play late in the game that they took advantage of off of a shot by Erdély from the blue line.
