Hungarian Women Defeat Denmark

After close losses to Japan and Austria the Hungarian Women’s national team was looking to pick up their first win at the Division 1/A World Championships in Graz, Austria.

Hungary-Denmark 2-0
Head Coach Tibor Marton went Anikó Németh between the pipes as she had started the first two games. Hungary struck first in the first half of the opening period as Kinga Jokai-Szilágyi scored an even strength goal to make it 1-0. Hungary had two separate power play opportunities in the first period but was unable to convert on the chances as they took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. In the second period both teams had power play chances however the penalty kill was working. Late in the second period Hungary had a two skater advantage that they were unable to capitalize on as the score remained 1-0 and in the favor of Hungary. In the final period of hockey, Denmark had power play opportunities but Németh managed to keep the door shut on the Hungarian cage. In the final minute of play Fanni Gasparics was awarded a penalty shot that she converted on to put Hungary up 2-0. Anikó Németh went the distance for the shutout win as Hungary picked up their first win of the World Championships.
