FTC and DAB pull off upsets, MAC and Debrecen pick up easy wins

The opening night of the 2017 MOL League playoffs had two upsets as Dávid Duschek and DAB shutout UTE in Újpest. Ferencváros upset defending champions DVTK in a homeschooling game.

UTE-DAB 0-1
The home team went with Ales Sila in net and Dunaújváros came back with Dávid Duschek in the cage.  Both teams had potent offensive attacks during the season but this was a real goalie battle. After a scoreless first period  Keegan Dansereau took a break out pass, skated into the UTE zone and slipped the puck past Sila for the 1-0 lead. The two goalies kept on battling but in the end Duschek shut the door on UTE as DAB picked up the shutout win.

DHK-Brasov 6-3
Dávid Gyenes started for the home team as Brasov had Tőke in net. Ákos Berta opened up the scoring for the home team, later in the period Péter Hetényi scored a shorthanded goal to double the Debrecen lead. Brasov finally got on the scoreboard by the way of Huba Bors, before the period was out Ian McDonald tied the game up at 2-2. Debrecen pulled away in the second period as Arnold varga put Debrecen back up on top. Later in the period Attila Németh and Jesse Dudás scored to get Debrecen up 5-2. Ian McDonald scored his second goal of the game to get Brasov back within two scored but a late goal by Dániel Godó and closed the door on Brasov.

DVTK-FTC 4-5
Attila Adorján was the starting goalie for DVTK and Peter Sevela was defending the cage of Ferencváros. The visitors took a 1-0 lead when Tommy Sumi took a shot from the left faceoff circle that trickled through Adorján for the goal. Less than a minute later Attila Pavuk circled the goal and scored from just outside of the crease. DVTK took their first lead of the game when Bálint Magosi put his own rebound in to make it 2-1. Roland Hajós scored a power play goal from just outside of the crease put DVTK up by two goals. Not much later Jereme Tendler had Fradi back within one when he skated in on Adroján and put the puck between his legs. It was a one goal game until the second half of the game. Fradi tied it up when Vladimir Dubek scored from just outside of the crease. Later in the second period Ákos Kiss put his own rebound home to give Fradi the 4-3 lead. Fradi held onto the one goal lead until late in the third period when DVTK tied it up on a goal by Grant Toulmin. However about a minute and a half later Fradi was back on top with Dubek’s second goal of the night.

MAC-Fehérvár 7-1
Fehérvár gave Adrien Lemay the starting nod in net with MAC going with Bence Bálizs in net. In the opening minutes of the game István Terbócs picked up a loose puck behind the net and banked it off the goal for the 1-0 lead. Later in the period Tamás Sárpátki sprang Devon Krogh, the first shot was saved, but he put his rebounded in to tie the game up at 1-1. Early in the second period Balázs Somogyi took a pass from Roland Vokla and sent a rocket past the goalie. Minutes later on the power play Bronson Kovács scored from the exact same spot as Somogyi to go up 3-1. Jeff Jubinville scored from the corner to make it 4-1, minutes later Gergő Nagy put MAC up 5-1. At this time fehérvár switched goalies as Lemay was replaced by Alex Scola in net. Krisztián Nagy took a loose pucked and put it past Scola for the short handed goal as MAC opened up at 6-1 lead. In the third period Gergő nagy scored his second goal of the game, early in the third period as MAC cruised to the 7-1 win.
