Zoltán Hetényi kept DEAC in the game against Ferencváros, but in the end the home team won in a shootout. Vienna defeated HK Budapest thanks to their special teams.

Game of the Day: FTC-Telekom-DEAC 3-2 (0-1, 1-1, 1-0, 0-0, 1-0) S.O.

Debrecen already had the lead in the first minute of play off of a goal by Jakub Izacky. Ferencváros had two power plays, but Hetényi played great in the net for DEAC to keep the lead going.  Early in the second period Attila Pavuk tied the game up at 1-1. Ferencváros controlled the game but were unable to put the puck past Hetényi. DEAC went back up by one goal as Norbert Hári set up Hugo Turcotte for the score. Braden Walls tied the game up to send it to overtime when he jumped on a rebound and put it home. After a scoreless overtime FTC won the game n overtime when Adrián Tóth scored the winning shot.

Szabolcs Fodor, head coach FTC-Telekom: We started the game off horribly, I kept on saying during the preseason that we will be playing a very fast paced style of hockey, however this is not what we did during the first ten minutes of the game. This might have happened because it was our first game of the season and we were playing on home ice. We had multiple scoring chances but we were unable to capitalize on them. Debrecen battled hard, this season will be a good one for the league. I would also like to say that Zoltán Hetényi played great in net for DEAC. I am very happy that we ended up winning the game, we have our first win of the season, now we just need to keep on working hard.

David Musial, head coach, DEAC: We came here knowing that Ferencváros is a very good team who is physically strong team. We tried to play a defensive style and tack advantage of our team speed. We were lucky that we scored early in the game. Ferencváros played great but thanks to our goalie we were able to stay in the game. We played better in the second period and were able to score a second goal. Fradi tried to tie the game up but we learned that even one mistake can be costly in this league. In overtime and in a shootout anything can happen, we are satisfied with picking up one point.

HK Budapest-Vienna Capitals 3-5 (1-1, 1-1, 1-3)

The new expansion team in the league opened up a 1-0 lead when Márk Egyed scored, however Alexander Maxa quickly tied the game up at 1-1. In the second period Maxa scored on the power play for the first lead of the game for the Capitals. Dániel Godó snipped a goal late in the second to make it 2-2. The third period started off with Levente Lakatos getting 5+20, the Cpas took advantage of this by scoring three goals in the span of five minutes. Dávid Szappanos scored a late goal to set the final at 5-3.

Dusan Kapusta, head coach HK Budapest: We scored early in the game and we were close to making it 2-0 but the goal was disallowed.  The turning point in the game was the 5+20 that Vienna took advantage of. Before that we had the momentum in the game. It was clear that our team has only been together for a month were as the Vienna players know each other. I did like how much our team worked hard. We did not defend the way I would have liked our team to defend better.

Santeri Heiskanen, head coach, Vienna: I am very happy that we won. It was a good paced game with scoring chances on both sides. Our players took care of what I had asked them. For most of the game we were able to control the game. There was a short time in the second period and in the start of the third where the opponents played better than us. The other key to the game was how well our power play was working. We scored four power play goals and they scored zero.
