DVTK closes week with defeat over MAC

After the week off because of the 90th anniversary celebration the ERSTE Liga was back in business with a number of exciting games. With the dust settled DVTK found itself on top of the standings with a key wins over MAC Budapest and Ferencváros.

Diósgyőr opened up the match week with a Friday night thriller that was a rematch of last season’s final. After a scoreless first period Bálint Magosi gave DVTK a 1-0 lead however Scott Maccoulay answered back minutes later. In the tight game Jed Rusk scored the game winner with  less than five minutes left in the game as DVTK picked up three important points. The club from Miskolc picked up another three points against Ferencváros to secure the top place in the league. DVTK jumped out to 1-0 lead off of a Pete Sakaris goal in the first period and had made it 2-0 off of a János Vas power play goal, but Fradi cut the lead in half when Preston Shupe scored before the period was out. The third period brought all the excitement as Fradi tied the game up at 2-2 before DVTK switched gears as Balázs Láda scored two power play goals in less than two minutes to put the game in the bag.

MAC who is in second place closed out the week with a shutout win over the Vienna Capitals. Gergely Arany was in net and Nándor Fejes scored his first senior goal of his career. Jared Brown led all scorers with two goals and two assists, which included a nice breakaway.

Újpest and Dunaújváros were the two Hungarian teams that were in Transylvania to take on Csíkszereda and Brasov. The Budapest club started out with a come from behind win over Brasov. The home team had a 1-0 lead after the first period, UTE tied the game up with a goal by Anze Ropret in the second period, however Brasov took back the lead before the period was out. Brasov opened up a 3-1 lead off of a Braden Walls goal in the third period. UTE scored three goals in ten minutes for the comeback win. In their second game UTE went up the road to take on Csíkszereda where they ran into a got goalie in Ottó Onodi. András Benk gave UTE the early 1-0, in the second period Zsombor Antal and Belov found the back of the ent to flip the score and pick up the win.

Against Dunaújváros Onodi had another great game as he let in one goal. Andrey Taratukhin gave Sport Club the 1-0 lead in the first period with Danil Skrypets scoring the only goal of the second period. Ondrej Rusnák put Csíkszereda back on top with Taratukhin Radim Valchar and Csanád Fodor scoring in the closing minutes. Dunaújváros did not do that much better against the other Transylvanian club either. After a scoreless first period Brasov scored three unanswered goals in the second to go up 3-0. The score stayed the same until the final minute of play as Dunaújváros ended the shutout that Zoltán Tőke had going.

Fehérvár had only one match this week as they traveled to Vienna to take on the other EBEL farm team in the league. The two teams closed out the opening period with the game tied up at 2-2. It looked as if the game would be tied up at 3-3 after two periods however Vienna scored in the final minute of the period. Richard Schlögl put Vienna up 5-3 early in the third period, however in a five minute span in the middle of period Fehérvár scored three goals to flip the score as the visitors went up 6-5 and held onto the win.
