Csíkszereda Sweeps Dunaújváros in first round

It did not take SC Csíkszereda long to move past Dunaújváros in the first round of the playoffs as the Transylvanian club needed only four games to get past their first round opponent and to advance to the second round.

In the four games Csíkszereda outscored Dunaújváros by the total of 17-5, which also included a 3-0 shutout in the fourth game by netminder Ottó Onodi.

With Dunaújváros being the higher seeded team they hosted the first games in the series. In the opening game Onodi was back in net for Csíkszereda as he came back off of injury, The home team had Dávid Duschek in net. Csíkszereda jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on even strength goals by Vyacheslav Belov and Petr Schastlivy. After a scoreless second period Radim Valchar scored a power play goal to make it 3-0. Late in the game Dunaújváros pulled Duschek in an effort to score a goal, the move payed off as Tihamér Becze found the back of the net to make it 3-1. Csíkszereda put the game away with an empty net goal by Valchar for his second goal of the game.

For game 2 again Csíkszereda took a 1-0 from a Peter Fabus goal. Less than a minute later Daniel Nagler tied the game up for the home team. Later in the period Becze received a game misconduct. With four seconds left in the period Tamás Farkas put the visitors back on top with a power play goal. In the second period Hugo Turcotte blew by the Csíkszereda defenders and put the puck past the goalie to make it 2-2. Later in the period Schastlivy scored twice to put Csíkszereda put by two goals. Zsombor Antal scored a fifth goal for Csíkszereda as they opened up a 2 games to 0 lead in the series.

The series shifted to Csíkszereda for games three and four. Schastlivy continued his hot streak in the series as he gave Csíkszereda the early 1-0 lead. Valchar made it 2-0 during the first shift of the second period on a two man advantage. Dunaújváros cut the deficit in half when Becze scored a power play goal. Fabus put Csíkszereda back up by two goals as the teams headed into the third period. In the third period Jakub Izacky scored an unassisted goal to make it a one goal game again. With just under five minutes left in the game Schastlivy scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-2. Late in the game Dundaújváros called timeout and pulled Duschek for the extra attacker to have a 6-4, Belov scored a short handed empty net goal to set the final at 5-2 and to be one game away from moving to the next round.

Game 4 was a must win for Dunaújváros if they wanted to avoid elimination and to move the series back home. Defenceman Szabolcs Papp scored a power play goal to give Csíkszereda the 1-0 lead for the fourth game in the row. The score remained unchanged until late in the second period when Valchar scored a power play goal with 22 seconds left in the period. Late in the game again Dunaújváros pulled the goalie for the extra attacker but Schastlivy scored the empty net goal and to send Csíkszereda to the next round.
