Austria Wins 4-2 at the Women’s World Championships

After coming up on the bottom end of a 1-0 score against Japan the Hungarian women’s national team was back on the ice for their second game of the Division 1/A World Championships against Austria.

Head Coach Tibor Martin stuck with the hot hand in net Anikó Németh started in net with Vanessa Horváth as the backup goalie. Hungary opened up an early 1-0 lead as Fanni Gasparics scored the team's first goal of the tournament off of a pass from Franciska Kiss-Simon. Hungary was not able to capitalize on their first power play of the game, later in the period Austria tied the game up at 1-1.

Austria took their first lead of the game early in the second period when they found the back of the net with a power play goal. Just past the midway point of the game Hungary scored a power play goal of their own off of a shot by Réka Dabasi to make it 2-2. Late in the second period Hungary had the disadvantage of being two skaters down and Austria capitalized on this by taking back the lead.

In the final period Austria opened up a two goal lead. Hungary had a chance to trim the deficit to one when Alexandra Huszák was awarded a penalty shot, however she was unable to convert it to a goal. In the end the Austrians held on for the two goal win.
