A night of overtime games

The ERSTE Liga continued with some exciting games as the Fehérvári Titánok and DEAC needed overtime to take the win with Dunaújváros winning in regulation.

Vienna Capitals-Dunaújvárosi Acélbikák 3-6 (1-1, 1-2, 1-3)
The young Vienna Capitals team had the early lead in the game however the veteran Dunaújváros managed to flip the score and pull away at the end. Jonas Westerling finished the game with a goal and two assists.

DEAC-Schiller-Vasas 3-2 (0-1, 0-1, 2-0, 1-0) O.T.
Debrecen hosted Vasas in their home opener of the season. The first period had two fights and Vasas goal. The Budapest squad opened up a 2-0 lead, however in the third period DEAC came back by scoring twice in the third to tie the game up and send it to overtime. Attila Németh scored the game winner as two out of the three points stayed in Debrecen.

David Musial, head coach, DEAC: We played well in the first two periods however we were unable to score any goals, Vasas defended well and scored two lucky goals. We played well in the third period we did everything to tie the game up and we are happy for the win. It is hard to play against such a defensive team.

Balázs Ladányi, head coach, Vasas: We are happy with our first game with such a young roster. We are aware of what our team can do, we were also surprised by how well the team has come together.  By the end we were able to keep up with the pressure that DEAC kept us on. We need our players to believe that they can compete against anyone in the league.


Fehérvár-HK Budapest 2-1 (0-0, 0-1, 1-0, 1-0) O.T.
HK Budapest kept on pressure on the Fehérvár net in the opening period. The visiting team scored first when the veteran Dávid Szappanos scored a power play goal, In the first shift of the third period Jack Lewis skated in on net and put the puck past Bence Kiss to tie the game up at 1-1. In overtime Lewis scored the game winner as Fehérvár won in their season opener.

Dávid Kiss, head coach, Fehérvár: I was expecting the early nervousness to slow us down early in the game. We created scoring chances but we were unable to capitalize on them. We were finally able to score in overtime and pick up the win.

Dusan Kapusta, head coach, HK Budapest: I am very happy that we have picked up our first points of the season, however not some much about the goals that were scored against us. The team played well and both teams had a number of young players playing
